I recently bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max directly from the Apple Store in Canada as a gift for my family in India. If I set up the phone in Canada with a Canadian region, will it still work properly in India, including with Indian SIM cards and network services?

You will need to set up the phone with India as the region and ask the carrier that you want to use in India whether the phone will be compatible with their service.

Unfortunately, the phone will have no warranty coverage in India, so hopefully it does not require service.
It will work in India, however, you may have a problem getting service if it needs it in India, as the warranty is officially valid in the country of purchase. You may be able to find a shop who will fix it, but it may also have to be returned to Canada.
