Sync is a one-way procedure, you cannot transfer or copy music from a device (your phone) into iTunes.

If the phone has been synchronised with another iTunes library, take note that attempting to Sync the phone with this second library will cause iTunes to ask if you want to remove all the media from the phone and add only what is in the replacement library. Make sure you understand what this means; the music on the phone will be deleted and iTunes will then add only what music is in the replacement library. There is a warning message before finally performing the Sync, but experience here tells me that it is often ignored. Don't ignore it. So if you are attempting to Sync with another library, make sure that all the music you want to keep in the replacement library before you use Sync.

To add the music to your iTunes library depends where the music came from originally. Note the difference in procedure between music from iTunes store and music from any other source:

    • for purchases from the iTunes Store, made on your phone, you need to sign into your Apple account in iTunes (the same one used to purchase the songs) and then download the purchases from your account in the store directly to your iTunes library
    • for purchases from other online stores, such as Amazon, Bandcamp, artist websites etc. use your computer's browser to access the account for that store/source and download your purchases from the store to your computer. This includes free music from these sources. Once on your computer (stored in the appropriate artist folder in the Music folder, use the iTunes' menu command File/Add Folder to Library or for single songs, File/Add File to Library. Navigate to the folder or file and select it
    • for music imported into your iTunes library from CD, you will need to add a copy of that music to your computer, either the digital file or if you don't have it, from the CD:
      • if it's the digital copy of the CD, once the files are in the appropriate location on your computer, use the same iTunes menu option as the previous paragraph (File/Add...)
      • if you need to use the import from CD option, use iTunes Import CD feature
