MacBook has been crashing since Ventura.

My back up Macbook keeps crashing on a daily basis. Has been since Ventura. Haven't been able to get a clear culprit. Love this old mack and want to keep using it for my personal use. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. EtreCheck Gave the following report:

First of all you need to uninstall both CleanMyMac and Avast anti-virus (Avast seems to already be partially removed) by following the developers' instructions. Even then, these apps are not always completely removed (probably occurred with Avast). Anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, and third party security software are not needed on a Mac and usually causes more problems than they solve because they interfere with the normal operation of macOS. Plus many of these apps will collect & sell your personal information and some even have severe vulnerabilities which actually weaken the security of your Mac.

macOS already has great built-in security especially when users also do their part by following safe computing practices as outlined in this excellent article:

I would also advise uninstalling the NordVPN software as well since VPNs like this do not protect you like they advertise. The only useful VPN is when you are connecting to an employer's Firewall/VPN server to access the employer's internal network (provides security & privacy), or to avoid regional restrictions (the latter you do give up security & privacy to achieve a different goal):

All of these types of apps are preying on people's fears.

The "ProxiedDevice-Bridge" crashes are worrisome because they are related to the T2 security chip. It is hard to say whether the previously mentioned software issues could be contributing to these T2 chip crashes or not. If not, then it most likely indicates a hardware issue with the Logic Board.

  • Clean My Mac needs removed with their uninstaller
  • NordVPN needs to be removed
  • Disk Drill needs to be removed along with CleverFiles
  • EaseUS needs to be removed
  • Avast needs to be removed

All known to cause problems with your computer and removing will need to be done using the installer that they provide. Even then, you will need to check that it removed all files. That is the first place to start.

A Factory Reset may be easier to start with a clean computer as some of those programs install Kernel Extensions that may be difficult to remove.

Go to Finder > Go > Go to Folder, and enter /Library/LaunchDaemons

The only files in that folder should be the ones that contain:

  • Zoom
  • Microsoft
  • Adobe
  • Canon

Go to Finder > Go > Go to Folder, and enter ~/Library/LaunchAgents (Don't forget the ~ character)

The only files in that folder should be the ones that contain:

  • adobe
  • google
  • grammarly
  • Spotify

The files in those folders that do not contain one of the names provided are easy to delete. It is the Kernel Extensions that are installed by NordVPN, EaseUS, and Disk Drill that are much more difficult. Many times without the uninstaller for those, you are better off doing a clean install of the OS.
