Problems with macOS Ventura 13.7 Update

Dear Mr Old T… I took the recent 13.7.1 update on my older Mac (intel)… and now Safari won’t work. Was fine on 13.7. Now upon start of system it gives me safari extension errors, and clearing them or ignoring them is impossible. I am able to go into system settings and turn off extensions. Doesn’t help. Only way to use a browser right now is to use chrome. Struggling to find a way to get normal safari functioning again. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down  - Intel Macs) or  (How to Boot an M1 Mac into Recovery Mode), select Disk Utility and run First Aid on all items starting at the top. If you get an error repeat the First Aid on that item until there's no error. It could take 3 tries to get a clear run. Then reboot normally.

Macbook Pro with Intel and nearly all websites are getting security messages/"not private" warnings/"can't establish secure connection" messages in Safari, whereas Chrome is fine. Even updated Safari to 18.1 with no improvement. I removed all extensions, removed CleanMyMac, checked the date/time, DNS, everything.

Describe "Safari doesn't work". How doesn't it work?

There are a lot of different people from the original poster adding their own situations, but many of these situations may have different causes so it is best to start a separate thread. For instance, for yours, you had been using CleanMyMac which is a dangerous utility whose main purpose seems to be to delete files. In many cases that people have posted about in other threads, CMM ends up removing files that are essential for normal operation, leading to problems like the ones you described. "Removed CleanMy Mac" sounds like a step in the right direction but if it was installed under an earlier version of MacOS, sometimes protections change on certain folders in the newer MacOS and some of the pieces of these insidious utilities cannot be removed using ordinary methods. The cure for that can be fairly drastic (wiping the drive and carefully restoring from a backup) but hopefully not needed in your instance. You may want to verify that every piece or fragment from CMM is gone.

After updating my intel macbook pro to Ventura 13.7.1 Udemy is giving me problems in Safari. I tried every possible solution I found over a 3 hour period without any success. Additionally, my cooling fan has begun to run for no apparent reason and continues after all apps are closed. After restarting the computer, the fan begins to run again, particularly after opening safari.

Do the fans come on only when you're using Safari or any app?

If it's Safari only how many windows do you have open? (I get fans when I have many windows open in Safari).

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?
