Dual external monitors on Macbook Pro 14" with M2 Max chip?

I believe that the 2023 Macbook Pro 14" with the M2 Max chip can drive two external displays (not mirrored) but there is conflicting information out there. Some posts/videos seem to suggest that an adaptor is required, or that they can only be set up as mirrored. Can anyone confirm that it's possible? Also I wonder what is the best way to connect them: both connected to the Macbook using separate USB-C cables, or somehow daisy-chained to each other.

Your Mac supports up to 4 at varying resolutions. For two, it supports:

  • Two displays up to 6K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt
  • One display up to 6K at 60Hz over Thunderbolt, and one display up to 8K at 60Hz (or 4K at 240Hz) over HDMI

Best to connect them separately via USB-C, or get a dock that supports two displays of your resolution via one cable (e.g., Stone Pro).

USB-C can be used to support single displays up to 4K at 75 Hz directly, or with adapter to DisplayPort. Cable length should be limited to 1 meter.

Higher resolutions require a ThunderBolt connection over a very short ThunderBolt cable.

HDMI cables rated ULTRA can support data rates over 4K at 60 Hz DIRECTLY connected to the MacBook Pro 2023 HDMI port, but adapters to HDMI are not recommended.
