I just purchased a new iPad from the Apple store. It asked me to update the software to iPadOS 18.
It has been so far 10 hours waiting to complete the update. Is there anything wrong with the iPad?

Something has stalled - possibly due to interruption of your network or internet connection. A forced-restart is perhaps the best way forward - and may clear the issue:
Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)
If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:
Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)
Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
Keeping your iPad connected to its Power Adapter throughout the update process is advisable - as this will keep the WiFi connection active.

Tried restarting,reinstalling from scratch about 3 times now
every time update stalls
no Way to configure without update?
iPadOS 18.0.1 has been released today - and should become available to all (including iPads Pro M4) over the coming hours as the update rolls-out to Apple's regional servers.
