Airpods Pro connecting to iphone fine, however issues with Macbook Pro M1

I have the first-generation AirPods Pro, which has been flawless with my iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, when I try to connect the AirPods to my Macbook Pro M1, they show as connected. But after a second of sound comes out, they muffle a bit, then cut out completely. The video/audio is still playing, but nowhere is outputting the sound, even with the volume switched up. It's as if the Airpods are broken, which can't be true as they work fine with my iPhone. Please, any suggestions!?

Update: The AirPods Pro are already on the latest version 6A326
