Is it possible to trade-in a new unopened M3 macbook pro 8gb for a refurbished M3 16gb of the same model?

It appears not. I started the purchase process for a refurbished Mac and the option to include a trade-in was not presented. So it seems it only applies when purchasing a new device. But you can call the Apple Store and check.

But if you bought a new Mac, you have fourteen days (if purchased from Apple) to return it. Why do you not do that? You won't get anywhere near the value on a trade-in that the Mac cost.

Regards.

if you obtained it DIRECT from Apple, Not through a reseller of any kind, you have 14 days from receipt by the original purchaser in the same country for full-value return or exchange.

Opened or not opened is a don't care for this specific return/exchange policy, but if you are polite and professional, folks at Apple-owned stores will try hard to make you a happy Apple customer.

Of course there are limits to what they can do, but ask the store manager. Un-opened might be something they could put back in stock at the store, but there is no policy to allow that, only people who will do their best to be nice to you.

What is NOT available to you is trade-in. Currently for sale models are not part of the tree-in programs.

What Grant said also applies to whoever purchased the Mac and gave it to you. They would have fourteen days to return it, if it was purchased directly from Apple.

If you have the original purchase receipt, then as Grant suggested your local Apple Store might be able to help, but they may well refuse for a Mac that was purchased in another country. They also will almost certainly refuse a return if you do not have the receipt. If they do refuse, then your options are to either send the Mac back to whoever gave it to you to return, sell it and put the money toward the model you want, or just live with the one you were very kindly given.
