I have an iPad 10 generation and I want to connect a thumb drive to it.

I have an iPad 10 generation and I want to connect a thumb drive to it. I've read that I can connect through the charging port with a USB C. But I've been unable to find one that will fit through Amazon. Can you help me find one that will fit it?

The 10th-generation iPad has a USB port, not a Lightning port. Accessories with Lightning connectors will not work. To connect an older USB thumb drive to your iPad, all you need is something like this:

If you want to just read SD cards, then this:

The Illustrated USB-C to USB Adapter may be sufficient, but you will not be able to simultaneously connect your Power Adapter to the iPad. If the USB storage draws more power than the iPad alone can source, the USB storage will not be accessible.

A better choice of Adapter, that does allow simultaneous connection of USB storage and Power Adapter, might be:

  • USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter

In addition to USB Type-A and USB-C pass-through power connections, you'll also have an HDMI port with which you can connect to a TV or other monitor.

Your iPad10 has a USB-C port - and not a Lightning port. While am active USB-C to Lightning Adapter is exclusively available from Apple - to which you can connect many Lightning accessories to a USB-C equipped iPad - this is sub-optimal for connecting USB storage and SD Card readers to your iPad.

Starting with SD Cards, you might simply connect a suitable SD Card reader that has a USB-C connection. For example, from Apple (guaranteed to work with your iPad):

  • USB-C to SD Card Reader

Perhaps more useful, consider purchase of a USB-C hub that incorporates an SD Card Reader. This will be considerably more flexible, as you will be able to simultaneously connect multiple other devices and your Power Adapter to your iPad.

There are many third-party USB Hubs that have a USB-C connection for iPad plus a USB-C PD (Power Delivery) pass-through power connector to which you can connect your USB-C Power Adapter - along with the hub itself incorporating a combination of additional USB-C ports, USB 2.0/3.1 Type-A ports, Ethernet LAN, HDMI, VGA, SD and microSD card-readers.

Perhaps consider Kingston, Anker, Hyperdrive and Satechi - although there are many others from which to choose. A Google Search for USB-C Hubs compatible with iPad will find a number of articles and recommendations.

Sorry, no, not exactly. Do you mean you are trying to connect a drive you already have? If so, what type of USB connector does it have, the smaller USB-C type or the older, larger USB-A.

If you mean you want to buy a new drive, then my previous advice would apply. I'd suggest avoiding off-brands of drives, of which there are several on that Amazon page. SanDisk, Kingston and Verbatim are well-known and reliable brands. No way of knowing about those others. I'd also avoid purchasing from a seller other than Amazon themselves or going to a local Apple dealer. Amazon affiliates can be risky and in some cases downright fradulent.

Regards.
