If my 14 year old leaves family sharing, do the parental controls turn off?

My kids are always trying to outsmart the parental controls. My oldest has just turned 14 and was told by a friend that he can just leave the family sharing to disable the Find My feature. He hasn’t done it yet, but will doing so also turn off the parental controls?

My understanding is that even if the child were to do that, ScreenTime restrictions would still be active and would require your passcode to change them. It would just be more of a nuisance and you would be less likely to grant the child extra access if you have to do it from their device.
