Iphone 16 with 10k duplicate photos after syncing with Mac and no duplicate button on iPhone 16 to remove photos.

I synced my new phone 16 to my Mac, and now all the photos on my phone are duplicated and half of them don't have a trash can to delete them. I also don't have a duplicate button in the utilities of the iPhone to delete duplicate photos. So, how do I delete the 5,000 duplicate photos that don't have a trash can icon?

iPhone 16, iOS 18

I wish we had a better word than "sync" for the one-way push of photos and videos from the Mac onto a phone into an unmanageable blob that looks like part of the phone's photo library but isn't really.

To get rid of all of them, repeat the "sync" from your Mac, but this time select zero photos and videos to sync. That will delete the entire "blob" of things that can only be managed from outside your phone.
