Email Sound Notifications Not Working After ios 18 Update - Temporary Fix Found

I am not receiving email sound notifications after updating iPhone 14 to ios 18. After trying many offered solutions I have discovered that I DO RECEIVE SOUND NOTIFICATIONS if I uninstall (delete) the native ios "Mail" app and then reinstall it from the App Store. The PROBLEM is that this "fix" only lasts for one day and reverts back to NO SOUND NOTIFICATIONS being received the next morning.

So, if I delete and reinstall the native ios Mail app I receive sound notifications for A SINGLE DAY ONLY and the no sound notifications for emails received condition reappears the following day.

I am not tech savvy enough to know why this happens BUT I have tested this over several days and find it to be 100% accurate. Perhaps someone can figure out why delete / reinstall of the ios "Mail" app offers only a temporary (single day) fix.

This Solved My Problem.

This is how I solved my problems on my iphone 16 ios-18.3.1 apples email app not giving sounds and notifaction's, first let me say this i also have a apple watch-9 my watch always gave alerts as normal. After I read in another fourm to try turning off the bluetooth on my iphone because it was connected to my watch or for others it may be connected to a speaker or so on, My watch has celluar service so when bluetooth is off i still get notifactions on it,

I turn it off and tried it sent myself and email and got nothing. so than i went into settings, apps, Apples Email, than mail accounts i have 4, go to the bottom "Fetch New Data" on the top is "Push" my switch is Off than go to the bottom you will see Automatically my setting was set to this, there is also these setting-Manually, Hour, Every 30-Minutes, Every 15-Minutes, i set my to"Every 15- Minutes" and than i tried sending myself another email and it worked great on my phone and my watch.

Than i turn the bluetooth back on and connected to my watch with it on my waist sent myself another email and got sound notifactions on my watch only which is correct and got notifactions on my iphones lock screen (No Sounds) sounds were on the watch, than i took off my watch and left it sitting on the counter, i sent myself another email and i got the sounds and notifactions on my iphones lock screen on. This fixed my iphones sounds and notifactions and badges,

I hope this may work for others. try turning off bluetooth check to see if connected to another device and change fetch data to 15 minutes.

This is a update on 2/17/25 everything is still working perfect sounds, notifactions and badges 5-days later. if anyone needs to know a setting on my phone let me know.

Isn't it interesting that Apple can send emails and texts about their new products, services and whatever but not one message/text/email about this problem. You'd think they would at least send out a notice about any progress they're making, or when full solution will be available. Wouldn't seem like it would take much time or effort just to inform us of the progress, what they've found thus far, etc.

I've gotten all manner of beeps and sounds, but few are about incoming emails and those that are are for a few emails but then they stop and I'm back to square one.

Anyone familiar with the term "class action?"

I have had a case opened with them since early January when I complained to one of their senior advisors that they kept taking me through the same checks. Even so, each time I call to let them know it’s still not fixed they attempt to do a screen share. Now I just tell them to read the case notes and see that the issue has already one to a senior. It still takes 20 minutes of my time on each occasion though!

I am having the same issue. I am using the most recent iOS. I have turned off/on my phone with a 10 minute rest in between. I have gone through the process of double and triple checking all my notifications etc. and am getting zero sound for email notifications. This is has created issues for my job as I am missing important emails. I’ve increased my Fetch setting but still not getting notified. I’ve resorted to setting a reminder to check emails (every 30 minutes) in my NON Apple calendar. So frustrating. Apple…fix this!

Well maybe it's time to go public in the social media, how apple is treating this problem, and how apple support is behaving, with no care or interest in it's clients

And the issue of mail notifications is not just on mail app, more or less all apps have some kind of issue, or notification problems or malfunction

To me apple is all about profit and social status, they don't give a fu.. about you or me, as long as they make billions is all good !!!

Well just maybe if this go viral, it will make some kind of dent in there profit with people changing back to android !!!

Yes, this is how my watch and iphone work together, too. It’s back to how it works by design after several months of silence. I didn’t have to change any settings. After one of Apple’s recent updates, I started getting email notifications correctly when my watch is not being worn. When my watch is on my wrist, my phone stays silent and my watch makes the sounds. That is by design so I believe Apple has fixed it. But, people may not know that wearing the watch intercepts the sounds. I appreciate you describing the details. I’d been wanting to share but didn’t want to explain it all. You did that.

Totally agree.I have just up loaded IOS 18.3.1 and still no change.Still NO email sound notifications.

How much longer are apple going to ignore the issue and not accept that they have a problem with the mail app.

With all their expertise I find it hard to believe that it takes so long nearly 3 months now to find a solution.

I don't think that they care about the minority, its just too much trouble.

So just letting everyone know what's happening currently. As you may know from previous posts I have 2 devices affected with this issue an iphone 15 and a new ipad 2024. Have literally just installed latest software so am giving that some time to settle in. So far ratio is every 2-3 time devices are switched on email sounds which is joyous. However calendar and reminder sounds are not notifying me (annoying with numerous appointments etc).

Will check in with Apple based on leaving it a bit to settle in and then ask.

Apple questions for you: (If anyone else knows I would be happy to hear as you are a lot cleverer than me!!).

I would like to know will this issue be fixed or is this issue with fetch system currently as good as it gets due to new push system?

Will you be willing to work with other ISP's that don't have this push technology currently (it's a but antiquated where I am and they don't all have the new system yet)?

What is the current state of play now can you comment? (An Apple consumer on here very sensibly pointed out on a statement being made by Apple).

Can you offer a patch or solution to email notification issue and no calendar or reminder sounds for say 8 months to tide everyone over?

Can you schedule/give a bit more flexibility over calendar alerts/reminders so they can sound?

I have currently got the schedule on (which ameliorates this somewhat) as I was told to by Apple in settings and apps option. However it doesn't extend to reminders or calendar notifications on this yet.

Any ideas from anyone on reminders and calendar issue be very grateful for advice.

Just uploaded IOS18.3.1 and still apple have not resolved the problems with the sound notifications on the mail app.

Seriously unimpressed that after 3 months the issue is unresolved.

It’s now obvious that the problem is considered so small that they don’t need to worry about us few who have a problem. If anyone has any new suggestions for a fix please post.

I wish I could help, I have gone back and looked at all my settings and didn’t find anything different then what I already posted, I still continue to receive all sounds, notifications as normal and have tried changing to different sounds and still getting all. If you need to know a setting I have let me know. One other thing I use list view, not category view in my email app.
