Email Sound Notifications Not Working After ios 18 Update - Temporary Fix Found

I have sounds for mail notification however the screen does not illuminate nor does the mail show when I lift the phone on lock screen.

Was working on 18 however updated to 18.2.1 this morning and its been broken since.

Incredibly frustrating as no notification settings have changed.

Interesting garvak, after you said your alerts were working I tried deleting my Mail app and reinstalling it. The next email received I got the alert sound (but no lockscreen banner). But no email alert sounds since.

Not a solution to the problem though. That’s a work around. Temporary fixes and work around let Apple off the hook. Instead of solving the problem they fob us off with ”we’re looking into it”. Really!! At least two updates and it’s still not working.

I have had the same problem since I upgraded to my iPhone 16 Pro. Updated to ios 18.2.1 recently and it still doesn’t work. Email does not play notification sounds or show the new email in the Notification Center. I have tried every possible option and spent hours on the phone with support. This is not a minor issue! If it’s a bug it needs to be fixed ASAP.

What I find horrible is that when you write something that’s the truth Apple takes offense and delete your comment. What’s wrong with saying spending $1200 on a phone and not getting email notification sounds pretty much stinks.

I don’t have the problem with text messages but both my wife and I have intermittent problems with WhatsApp notifications - not sure if it is related though. Also, for the last couple of days I’ve been getting new Mail notifications okay for around 75% of them. No idea why it has improved all of a sudden!

Update from Dec 6 when I first reported issue which had gone on for four months at that time.

Issue fixed for 6 weeks, now both my devices have the lurgy. I have a gremlin that lives in both devices it seems.

Currently email notifications are silent mostly which is a shame (I cheered when I had sound. I know embarrassing 😳).

Have lastest iOS.

Now the weird part, my hepatics and primary email box were changed but not by me so had to change it back.

Sometimes my devices scare the **** out of me by sounding. 💀

So back to drawing board so to speak. I will continue and persevere with this until issue sorted.

Also have strange phenomena with screen time data but I don’t think there’s any link and that’s another story entirely. 🤔

That does not solve the problem. The problem is the emails are simply not coming through. They are being blocked when they shouldn’t be. My contacts and even contacts labeled favorites. Send me an email and I can receive it just fine on my android tablet, but not on my iPhone. Apple, please fix this.

Just checked telephone function and it is not ringing for incoming calls either. That's really disturbing. So, no audible notification on incoming messages either. Really disappointing that Apple has no response.

It's been almost two months since this issue has occurred on my phone. Apple tech promised "they were working on a fix" but still no word on what that may be and when it will be available. Curious that on a rare occasion I get an alert, but not the tone I'd selected, and then no alerts going forward.

Apple seems not to be engaged on this issue. It shouldn't take this long to find a fix. Perhaps going back to a previous OS version would help. Anyone tried this?

Inormandroy, you have articulated my situation entirely! Same same same. I will occasionally get an alert notification with an incoming email but only about once a week. Frustrating because I rely on the sound alerts to answer timely emails.

Yes, they say that just to fob you off. As someone else rightly mentioned they give you updates you don’t need and then are not bothered when you report a problem. Don’t they user test changes before they issue them. Beginning to think I shall avoid Apple when it’s time to replace. Do they care. NO

Same problem. I've just done the update to 18.3 and this has had zero effect. Still no sound or visual notifications that a new email exists unless I go into the Mail app, and then visual only when "fetched".

So the latest for my problem with this "no email notification" issue is that I am now getting an occasional alert, but only about 1 percent of the time. Thanks for nothing Apple. Also, the alert sound I'm getting is not the one I chose and trying to select my preferred sound reverts to the one Apple is using irregardless of my choice/preference.

I've written before about this but it's worth reiterating for Apple's benefit (if they even care). I live in Los Angeles; near the recent burn areas. Thankfully I was not directly affected but it's difficult to imagine that if I had been in danger, and certainly for those that were that because of Apple's glitch I might never have heard an email notification about the emergency or other critical notifications. Holding the phone in the "on" or "open" position and visually checking constantly offers some solace, but it sure wouldn't have helped at night. Apple, think of the danger that presents.

Problem still not fixed even after 18.3.1 update. I totally agree with people saying that Apple isn’t fixing this issue because not enough people are complaining about it. I guess it’s time to get an android phone.
