Are there any known issues with the iOS 18 Update?

I have an iPhone 13 Pro. I’m running 17.7. Are there issues with iOS 18 that might delay updating? Should I wait until a patch comes out or is it safe now? My biggest concern is the handset hearing up and battery drain.

iOS 18 is generally stable, but as with most major iOS updates, early versions can have bugs that get patched in subsequent releases. Some users have reported issues such as increased battery drain and occasional overheating with iOS 18, which is common after big updates as the system re-indexes files and apps optimize themselves for the new software.

If your primary concerns are heating and battery life, it might be worth waiting for at least one or two minor updates (such as 18.0.1 or 18.1), which typically address these early issues. However, if you’re eager to update and willing to monitor battery performance and app behavior closely, it should be safe to install now, keeping in mind you might need to tweak some settings (like background app refresh or location services) to conserve battery.

Do a Google search and see what other people are experiencing. I did and I think I’m going to wait. In response to that guy who gave you an answer already, the problems people are having with iOS 18 aren’t rumours. These problems are real. You can even do a search here on the forums to see how many people are having issues and what kind of issues before you update. Good luck👍

You can do a Google search on any version of iOS (or iPadOS or macOS or Android OS or Windows) and get reports of the latest one being a catastrophe. However, you need to consider the way in which these results are skewed. Almost no one logs into a forum and starts a thread saying something like, "I had no issues upgrading to iOS 18.". So, even if the majority of people are not having any issues, you will always find more results with people saying they're having issues.

It's just like if you searched for "alien abductions", you'll get lots of people saying they were abducted by aliens. You will probably get no results of people reporting they were NOT abducted by aliens (unless something from the Onion makes the list).

There is no unusual number of posts in this forum about issues with iOS 18. The likelihood that you will have a problem is, as it always is with an upgrade, very, very small. The likelihood that your problem is related to iOS 18 and not to either a misunderstanding of how things work or a coincidence is even smaller.

Upgrade when it makes sense to you but don't add to a false, scaremongering narrative.

Do not update right now. Wait at least 18.1.x version. I updated my phone couple days ago from 17.7. because faced some issues with parent control and after update on 18.0.1 I totally not see my children apps time using (not showing charts at all). In settings I found couple bugs too. Stay away from iOS 18.0.1 at least to 18.1.0

I have an iPhone 14 Pro and update to 18.01 and Apple CarPlay and barely works. I went through all the Google recommendations as far as iPhone settings (Allow Siri When Locked) and even reset both the iPhone and the

vehicle (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi). I am IT Administrator and I am pretty savvy at figuring things out but this has me perplexed. I went as far as updating my 2022 Hyundai Tucson firmware to the latest Display Audio Software Update revision, and got Apple Car Play to barley working. Now I get music out of the two front speakers either in monotone or when it decides to play in stereo. Stay away from IOS 18 for now.

You’d normally be right, but in this case you’re wrong.

There’s definitely more issues with iOS 18.0 than with most recent X.0 iOS versions. I work as a software developer for a mobile app so I interact with many knowledgeable people who are familiar with their devices and technology in general and we have all seen some weird UI bugs, resizing, crashes and unresponsiveness.

Nothing that really stops you from doing anything, but it isn’t polished enough for it to be a release version IMHO.

4 iPhones in my household (15 Pro, 14 Pro, 15, 13) all reported much reduced battery life on 18.0. None of us regularly charge our phones during the day and post 18, we all are having go plug in each afternoon to keep us topped off till bedtime. I'm aware that new major OS versions can eat some battery while they reindex etc but this has gone on since release. 2 of us were on public beta and both noticed it pre-golive.

Just put 18.0.1 on and hoping there's some reprieve, although the release notes don't specifically mention battery life. It's also not beneath apple to just fix something like that and never speak of it again...

Do not update to iOS 18 and AI

silence unknown callers when turned off still silences unknown callers

turn off volume limits notifications does not stop the notifications

repeating events in the calendar cannot be moved to a forward date

repeating events in the calendar cannot be changed from repeating to “never” repeat

photo app as people have mentioned is rubbish

IoS 18 has a major problem, do not update, my screen went blank although I could receive calls but nothing on the display, got it serviced in the authorized center who did mention it has affected the mother board and had to pay INR 18,000 to get it fixed, I am really surprised that Apple does this and later on come up with a patch, but Apple has to think over that I have already spend the money to get my phone up and running. One is I pay so much for the phone and then suffer from the automatic update bugs, I am an Apple fan, now started losing faith in them.

99 per cent of users, including me would disagree. It is not generally stable. It is the least stable of any update to date. Please do not tell people to install it. If you are getting kick backs or work for Apple, this is highly unethical. If you do not work for Apple or get kickbacks, then this advice is just irresponsible. As you can see a clear majority of users have major issues with IOS 18 and the patch. My notes app has not worked since installing IOS 18 and the patch. I have lost so much time that I am not using other apps just in case they slow me down. Lucky my iPad is running iOS 17 something and K can use that as a workaround. Please contribute something useful or stay off the forum. You’ve not even stated which iPhone you are using, which begs the question, is your input simply made up? If you are truly not having issues it would be helpful to know which phone you have. Otherwise please accept that the majority are having issues and stay out of the conversation.

Do not update. I sporadically get text messages and incoming calls now. The calculator has no memory so you can’t repeat calculations by hitting the equal button. Apple support is worthless and refuses to acknowledge the problems they just recommend a factory reset. I just did that. It doesn’t work. This honestly has me considering buying an android after nearly two decades of using an iPhone.

Maybe someone not having issues and it’s good but other does… photo on my iPhone 12 mini with iOS 18.0.1 freezing and not responding when I try to close it or tap on search not each time but it’s happening. I have near 5 bugs that I facing all the time 1 safety check, 2 Siri icon glitch in messages when I on/off iMessage, 3 bug in the apps in settings, but most annoying it’s parent control. And yes I restarted my phone, deleted all settings and even data. Nothing not helping. It’s a good phone but he has bugs right now on iOS 18.0.1 it’s a fact

OMG! It’s the worst. Apps close out. Phone gets hot. Can’t hold a charge. Photos redesign is not customizable like before. I can’t have WiFi and data on at same time. EVERYTHING takes forever to load…like dialup slow. Touch screen is delayed and really unresponsive at times. Entire operating system freezes so you’re stuck on a page or something and you can’t swipe out of it or get it to load or respond to touchscreen! Glitches so much it’s annoying 😤 I feel like this update failure is targeted towards older iPhones. Mine is 2020 iPhone 11 Pro. Touch screen freezes up. Screen will turn black and you can’t get it to come back. Emails and messages aren’t showing up as sent or disappear entirely. Honestly, this update made me buy a new iPhone 16 Pro. I think it’s Apple’s goal to keep consumers buying. Doesn’t matter that Mac’s are quality built. If people keep the same iPhone for 5 years, what better way to make sales than to make older models have issues so they’ll feel it’s necessary to replace it and upgrade. The update on my 2017 iPad cause programs to crash daily 🙄 The touch screen isn’t as responsive. Lots of issues staying connected to WiFi networks. I’m so annoyed 😒 I’m so trapped in with Apple. I’ve only ever used Apple. All my data, photos, music, documents, and everything, means I’m in too deep to get out. The amount of time and work it’d take to make all of that PC android compatible is ridiculous.
