Are there any known issues with the iOS 18 Update?

I have an iPhone 13 Pro. I’m running 17.7. Are there issues with iOS 18 that might delay updating? Should I wait until a patch comes out or is it safe now? My biggest concern is the handset hearing up and battery drain.

iOS 18 is horrible. It messed up everything on my phone including the files in my apps. It deleted my files, it keeps glitching out, it won’t search anything. The photos app update is horrible. It was great the way it was before. Apple keeps making things worse not better. I am more and more disappointed every time I update my iPhone. That I don’t want to update my iPhone anymore. Everything glitches with iOS 18, even the setting app is confusing now. And I can’t just use my cellular data or WiFi either one my phone glitches and nothing loads and keeps logging out of my social accounts and other apps. And that just because I have downloaded music I have no storage on my phone because music all of a sudden takes up so much space that it wants me to delete basically everything else or delete all my music. I’m seriously considering switching.

iOS 18 is alright, but all the apps are now trash. You can’t check mail on WiFi, fast battery drain, google chrome won’t browse the web on WiFi, iOS randomly locks up in the middle of switching apps. Siri is confused understanding speech or doesn’t work at all. Using my iPhone 16 pro, I get 12 hours of battery life, max! My iPhone 13 worked better with battery life. I might switch to pixel 9. Ehhhhh

Do a Google search and see what other people are experiencing. I did and I think I’m going to wait. In response to that guy who gave you an answer already, the problems people are having with iOS 18 aren’t rumours. These problems are real. You can even do a search here on the forums to see how many people are having issues and what kind of issues before you update. Good luck👍

After updating my iPhone 15 Pro Max to ios18, my phone suddenly draining 5 to 10% of battery charge overnight even if Im not using it. Before I update to ios18 it stays to 100% battery charge for almost 24hours if Im not using it, but now on ios18 in less than 12hrs without using the phone after I charged it, it will instantly drain 5 to 10% of battery charge.

When I checked the app that consuming the battery charge, it says the "Home and Lock Screen". But most of my settings are off and Im not using bright wallpapers, like I don't know if it's a bug or something, also from 99% battery health down to 98% with 34 charging cycle in 6 months. Seems like updating the latest ios everytime speeds up the battery degradation. It's so disappointing!

I update to iOS 18 now my carplay in my vw is not working properly while connected to car play. Without plug in I am in my correct location & can hear and get perfect directions-but once I plug it in to view directions-then it shows me in another state completely? I Called Apple 2x did troubleshooting from a-z. My phone works perfect while not plugged into CarPlay. It’s not the phone. What do you think happened with this update⁉️ Thank U

IoS 18 has a major problem, do not update, my screen went blank although I could receive calls but nothing on the display, got it serviced in the authorized center who did mention it has affected the mother board and had to pay INR 18,000 to get it fixed, I am really surprised that Apple does this and later on come up with a patch, but Apple has to think over that I have already spend the money to get my phone up and running. One is I pay so much for the phone and then suffer from the automatic update bugs, I am an Apple fan, now started losing faith in them.

You’d normally be right, but in this case you’re wrong.

There’s definitely more issues with iOS 18.0 than with most recent X.0 iOS versions. I work as a software developer for a mobile app so I interact with many knowledgeable people who are familiar with their devices and technology in general and we have all seen some weird UI bugs, resizing, crashes and unresponsiveness.

Nothing that really stops you from doing anything, but it isn’t polished enough for it to be a release version IMHO.

Do you work for apple? Your post is pointless. I and everyone I know has glitches, phone locks up, wifi stops, if change wallpaper any changes to home screen gone. Terrible update and forums like this are to help people explain this and they are not alone in issues and maybe then apple will listen and do updates quickly. If no one reports problems then everything is presumed ok.

You can do a Google search on any version of iOS (or iPadOS or macOS or Android OS or Windows) and get reports of the latest one being a catastrophe. However, you need to consider the way in which these results are skewed. Almost no one logs into a forum and starts a thread saying something like, "I had no issues upgrading to iOS 18.". So, even if the majority of people are not having any issues, you will always find more results with people saying they're having issues.

It's just like if you searched for "alien abductions", you'll get lots of people saying they were abducted by aliens. You will probably get no results of people reporting they were NOT abducted by aliens (unless something from the Onion makes the list).

There is no unusual number of posts in this forum about issues with iOS 18. The likelihood that you will have a problem is, as it always is with an upgrade, very, very small. The likelihood that your problem is related to iOS 18 and not to either a misunderstanding of how things work or a coincidence is even smaller.

Upgrade when it makes sense to you but don't add to a false, scaremongering narrative.

iOS 18 is generally stable, but as with most major iOS updates, early versions can have bugs that get patched in subsequent releases. Some users have reported issues such as increased battery drain and occasional overheating with iOS 18, which is common after big updates as the system re-indexes files and apps optimize themselves for the new software.

If your primary concerns are heating and battery life, it might be worth waiting for at least one or two minor updates (such as 18.0.1 or 18.1), which typically address these early issues. However, if you’re eager to update and willing to monitor battery performance and app behavior closely, it should be safe to install now, keeping in mind you might need to tweak some settings (like background app refresh or location services) to conserve battery.

If you do a "search", you will find negative results......no matter what iOS version that you are looking at.

That is simply because users who are not having any problems very rarely will report that fact because 99.99% of users are not having problems.

Remember that this site is like a hospital. Everyone here has a problem. Only a tiny fraction of people are in the hospital at any given time though.
