Camera auto focus is broken

Since iOS 17 and carring over to 18 there is an issue that Apple hasn't fixed even after sending them bug reports.

And that is that the auto focus feature on my iPhone 14 Pro does not work properly.

Previously I could tap on the item to focus and it would focus on the item. That or the phone auto focused on it's on. And currently that doesn't happen at all. Here is some context.

Zoomed out the camera gets stuck trying to auto focus and never does. Sometimes shaking the phone gets it unstuck and finally the phone focuses other wise it's a freaking fight to get it to focus correctly.

if I zoom in it doesn't even try to focus. Even clicking the item to focus it does nothing. But now I'd i zoom out wait till the phone tries to focus than zoom back in I can trick the phone to focusing. But again its annoying because it's a fight to get the image focused.

This isn't hardware as the problem only started after iOS 17 and forward. Prior to that everything was fine.

What I found to force the phone to forcefully work is using a third part camera app. When I do and the camera app sends command to focus the phone responds accordingly telling me that again it's not hardware.

it's Apple with a bug in its code refusing to fix it.

I creat YouTube videos. And when I use the YouTube app to record it's flawless. When I use blackmagic camera app it's flawless.

I get way more control and abilities than the Apple camera app provides but not only that it works where as the Apple app is limited and fails to work.

Im writing this because I'm hoping it gets apples attention. Since a bug report to them is ignored. Please fix your camera bugs.

Otherwise, your app will be never used and users like myself will find app and other ways to take photos and videos with apps that work.

Camera Auto Fucus Issue:

Update issues are commonly-reported issues on these forums. Question is: "Just how many people have actually reported this to Apple?

So, to All Readers with this Issue:

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue.  Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come. Apple will know nothing of this, if you don't report it to them.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Comment: that this all began after installing an update. Include the URL of this thread
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
