why is my screentime saying 12 hours when shut off during the day?
during the day i shut down my phone, and once it turns on it says the screentime is 8+ hours, while before hand i had only used it for an hour.

What do you mean by “shut down?” Did you follow these instructions:
- iPhone with Face ID: Simultaneously press and hold the side button and either volume button until the sliders appear, then drag the Power Off slider.
- OR: Go to Settings
> General > Shut Down, then drag the slider.
Or do you mean you pressed the SIDE button on the right side to lock the screen?
