Scanned File turning Black in Preview Only, Acrobat Enhance Scanned File

Not a question, just for anyone having this problem.

I scanned some documents with a scanner, and used Adobe Acrobat to edit them.

When I used the "Scan and OCR → Enhance Scanned File" function in Adobe Acrobat, this greatly reduced file size. However when opening these "Enhanced" files with Preview, some pages show up for 0.1 second as normal and then go black, with the text barely visible. Opening the file with Chrome or Adobe Reader no problems. Seems like Preview doesn't play well with Adobe's Enhance function.

I changed the Adobe's Enhance Scanned File settings (click the little gear) so that Color/Grayscale is set to JPEG and Monochrome is set to JBIG2 (Lossless). This resulted in smaller PDF files without the blackout issue in Preview.

Pages cannot open all PDF content as can the Adobe Reader application.

I think you mean Preview? The offending file was showing fine in the Chrome PDF viewer, which is built into the browser. This indicates Preview may have been the odd one out not working correctly.

Certainly, I meant Preview… 🧐
