Macbook M1 Pro (2021) keyboard malfunction

Been having my Macbook M1 Pro 2021 for over a year, since last week the keyboard has gone really wierd:

pressing spacebar will output ]

pressing return will output '

pressing down arrow will output [

it's almost the keyboard has rewired itself; any thoughts/ solutions?

(things I have tried: updating to latest OS 15, turning the laptop on and off, reset with the option+command+P+R)

if it really is a hardware issue and I read a keyboard replacement by Apple can cost as much as $700, is there like a software way to get around this problem, like having a software to 'remap' the keys?

I had this exact problem and tried all the solutions I saw. To solve the problem, I had to manually remove the keyboard in the bluetooth settings and reconnect. Then it started working again. This is strange because a keyboard power off/on and laptop power off/on (with NVRAM reset) did not work. Hopefully this helps someone.

See if you can isolate the problem. Startup your computer in Safe Mode, as described here: Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

See if you still have the problem.

You can also create a new user account and try it there.

If the problem doesn't happen in the new user account, then you've got a problem with your account configuration or possibly 3rd party system modification apps running as your user. If the problem does happen in the new user account but doesn't happen in safe mode, then there could be some system configuration issues or 3rd party system modification apps running with administrator privileges.
