What could cause a trackpad to stop working on my MacBook Pro?

The trackpad on my 2013 macbook pro stopped working, I cant move the cursor now with plugging in a mouse. Also, when typing, often hitting a key wont register. I've tried updating the software (the latest OS my computer can run is big sur), resetting the smc and pram, but no luck. I'm wondering if it is a hardware issue with the keyboard not working perfectly now too. Any advice?

When you try to click with your trackpad, do you feel that the trackpad doesn't go down?

If this is the case, then your battery is too old and started to bulge thus pushing upward the top casing

of your MacBook Pro, with the trackpad and the keyboard.

You can check this within:

[apple menu] > About this Mac > System Report… > Hardware > Power > Battery Information: > Health Information

Then bring it as soon as possible in an Apple Store to diagnose and replace its battery.
