This answer does NOT address what happened to the Apple password icon in Settings (creating a total panic). We are not talking about third-party password apps.

What answer? I'm not sure what the confusion is? When iOS 18 was released, they made changes to several areas within iOS. One change was to remove Passwords from Settings and move Passwords into its own App. The moment you downloaded iOS 18, the app was placed on your last home screen. It holds ALL the passwords you had access to when it was still in Settings.

This is not a 3rd party Password app. It is Apple's Password app.

This is totally unacceptable!! I could not find my passwords in the usual place and asked google about it. Was told there was now a separate password app on my Home Screen. There is not!! Went to App Store but no option to download it only to open it so apparently it’s here somewhere but where? I thought updates we’re supposed to make it easier not harder.
also the Gmail app was completely reconfigured and it is also more complicated to use !!!

When you updated your iPhone, the app for most people was deposited on the last home screen page you have. Simply swipe from right to left on your iPhone to get to the last page and you'll likely see the new Passwords app. If it's not there, keep swiping from right to left till you arrive at the App Library and find it there, then using a finger, hold it on the passwords app and move to any homepage you want, just like you can with any app.

You say it's unacceptable? Let's see.......In June Apple held its Developer Conference, where iOS 18 was discussed in detail, including the new Passwords App. This conference was broadcast worldwide. It was also at the top of these pages on this forum for some time. And just about every website in the world had a link to it. At Apple.com, it was posted about iOS 18 for months. And when iOS 18 was released, on the release page on your iPhone, the changes iOS 18 brought were listed just below which also informed users about the new Passwords app. You could have read the release notes before you downloaded the update. The fact you didn't do any research on what's new in iOS 18 certainly isn't Apple's fault.

100% agree. i prefer the passwords back in the settings. nobody asked us users anything, though. just 'surprise' we decided to 'fix' things. no thanks, apple.

Apple owns iOS, not you. And they are under no obligation to ask you anything, when it comes to their operating system. Just like Microsoft or any other developer of software you have a license to use.

But Apple did give everyone months of notice on this change, which btw., is infinitely easier to use. As opposed to opening settings, then scanning down to passwords, then looking for a password, now all you have to do is tap the passwords, app, which you can put on your first home page and look for a password.

Passwords missing on the 18.1.1 help

I can interpret that in at least three ways. Questions of few words can be ambiguous, unfortunately.

Not sure if it’s the help you can’t find, or it’s the app mis, or if some passwords are missing…

If you can’t find the Passwords app, turn off Screen Time and turn off Focus, and check again.

The icon for the Passwords app looks like this:

If it is the Passwords app help that you can’t find:

Here is a guide around how to use the Passwords app on an iPhone with iOS 18:

Use passwords on iPhone - Apple Support

Here is the guide page for finding an existing password:

Find your password for a website or app on iPhone - Apple Support

There are other sections for the Passwords app in the table of contents for the guide:

Again, this is all in the (new) Passwords app, and not the list that was formerly available in the Settings app.

Select All Passwords, and view what is included.

If you're not using iCloud Keychain already, consider enabling that, too.

Set up iCloud Keychain - Apple Support

iCloud Keychain will allow your passwords to be available across and synchronized across all devices logged into the same Apple Account.

I don’t see the passwords app in my phone using the instructions you gave

What iOS version are you on? When iOS 18 was first released, the Passwords app was deposited on your last page of apps. If it's not there, swipe from right to left on your first home page until you get the App Library and look for the Passwords app there. Then you can slide it to any home page you want from the App Library. This all assumes you are on iOS 18.

Yes, as you described, passwords was turned on, but there was no place to let me actually see my passwords. I had to download the app since the icon which was originally in settings (which let me see my passwords as well as input new ones) was gone.

I have now got it fixed by downloading the app. It got populated with all my passwords.

So far the update to 18.1 has been more disappointing than anything. It’s too bad.

When I use maps, it doesn't label the street like it used to. When I use Outlook calendar and input a location for an event, it used to automatically come up with options to complete the address and then show a map with the location. Not anymore.

After the update, the annoying password app appeared and I no longer have my passwords in settings. Apple please allow your customers to make suggestions and not your employees…This is nonsensical, inconvenient and makes me consider if we’re valued as customers!🤔

If you actually had read past the first post, you'd already know you aren't speaking with Apple on this user to user only forum. But I guess that's too much to ask?

Apple has never been big on consulting with us before changes are made. But they do offer Beta testing to users, so if you want to know what may be coming in future updates, you could become a beta tester.

I personally don't get the consternation here. It took way more steps to find passwords before they put them all in an App. How is going to the Settings App, then scanning down to Passwords, tapping it, then looking for a password easier than simply tapping an app and look for your passwords. It's different yes, but its infinitely easier than it was before.

Since you clearly didn't know you aren't writing Apple, you can provide feedback to Apple here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

If they EVER change it back to how it was before, I will certainly be using that same feedback link, which I already used to thank Apple for the new Passwords app, to let them know I don't want it returned to the way it was. Feedback is welcomed by Apple, even if everyone doesn't need to agree.

Yeah, exactly what I want to do. Read the notes to why they made something harder to access.

That's your choice. You don't have to read the notes, but then you shouldn't complain when you aren't aware of changes. That's on you.

To your assertion it's harder to use, HOW is it harder to use? I've said this a few times in this thread:

Old way to access passwords:

  1. Open your iPhone
  2. Tap Settings App
  3. Scan down to Keychain/Passwords
  4. Tap there
  5. Look for passwords

New way to access passwords

  1. Open your iPhone
  2. Tap Passwords app on your home screen (which you can place on your front page of apps or even in your dock)
  3. Look for passwords

How is having your passwords in an app harder to access?
