This answer does NOT address what happened to the Apple password icon in Settings (creating a total panic). We are not talking about third-party password apps.

What answer? I'm not sure what the confusion is? When iOS 18 was released, they made changes to several areas within iOS. One change was to remove Passwords from Settings and move Passwords into its own App. The moment you downloaded iOS 18, the app was placed on your last home screen. It holds ALL the passwords you had access to when it was still in Settings.

This is not a 3rd party Password app. It is Apple's Password app.

Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your thoughts here:

But seriously, they are not going to send you an email everythimg they make a change. You can always look it up yourself here:

The put that out for every major update. And, since you know that major updates come with changes, it behooves you to check it out before you update. Especially if you're someone who gets very agitated by change.

after this recent update I need my passwords back! It will take forever to redo all of them. I use my phone for work and this has really been a problem. Also many other features no longer work. If I try and click Face ID SOS or Privacy and Security it locks up and freezes the phone. Only way to get it back is to power it off and back on.

I see suggestions on here but none of them work. I had many years of saved passwords and log in info. Today I reset a password for a supplier that we use and did not think too much about it but the entire company could no longer log in and some went to other vendors that we actually pay higher prices. This update has literally cost me 10-20 hours already. If there is a fix please advise. What a worthless update!

When the phone is up to your ear, the screen is rendered inactive, so no, touching the record feature while you're on a call isn't likely happening. To your question, it can't be relocated.

And to your other comment about NOT updating, you're likely cutting off your nose to spite your face. Yes, there are new features rolled out with the update, which you don't have to use if you don't want to. But updates also include bug fixes, which might solve your issues.

If your display and digitizer is active with the phone near your ear, then the proximity sensor has seemingly failed, and then iPhone is quite possibly headed for a repair. Prior to the repair, clear off the area around the notch or dynamic island, and check for display cracks in the area of the notch, and remove any screen-protective film and any protective case, and try again. If that all fails to blank and disable the display while near your ear, the iPhone is probably headed for a repair.

Outside of the opt-in Apple Intelligence features, Messages hasn’t changed all that much AFAICT:

But if your iPhone has a hardware issue with the proximity sensor or the display itself, then having other issues is certainly entirely plausible, too.

Apple Intelligence is opt-in.

For that, consider enabling Assistive Access, which will very much focus the iPhone on a few specific tasks and apps: About Assistive Access on iPhone - Apple Support

lobsterghost1 my phone new recording feature does activate when i hold it to my ear. You are wrong! simxracer also has the same problem. your comment is not helpful. I was replying to Simxracer. If i dont want to update after just updating to 18.1.1 then I wont due to bugs in this version. That is upto me. and you say there's no issues yet conflict with what you say in your unwanted reply.

OK. Then you should schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show your phone to Apple. I've never once engaged the record feature while on a phone call. You may have a hardware issue with your Proximity Sensor. I believe Mr Hoffman also suggested you have your phone checked.

I'm sorry if you don't find my recommendations helpful. I have clearly upset you, which was never my intention.

I wouldn’t consider this poor customer service now. But you are welcome to leave Apple your feedback regarding this ⇢ Feedback - iPhone - Apple

This is totally unacceptable!! I could not find my passwords in the usual place and asked google about it. Was told there was now a separate password app on my Home Screen. There is not!! Went to App Store but no option to download it only to open it so apparently it’s here somewhere but where? I thought updates we’re supposed to make it easier not harder.

also the Gmail app was completely reconfigured and it is also more complicated to use !!!

What does that have to do with Apple? Complain to Google; Apple certainly can’t fix it - you may not have been aware, but Apple and Google are fierce competitors. Either attempting to fix or change the other’s code would result in the biggest lawsuit in history.
