Can you force MacBook to charge when plugged in?

I understand that Apple has a system that times the charging of devices to be more efficient, and that after 80%, charging can slow or stop. But I need my MacBook charged at certain times. When I have a few hours before I need to head out to a series of appointments, I need it to actually charge while it is plugged in. It stops at 80%. It is plugged it, shows it is plugged in, but also shows it is not charging because "rarely used while charging." Yes, this is true, but unhelpful. I use it when it is unplugged and then need it to charge when it IS plugged in.

Is there some way to tell it, "Please charge now while you are plugged in?"

Click the battery icon in the menu bar or control center, and select Charge to Full Now.
