Apple Watch S10 Digital Crown not responding to presses frequently

After setting up my new Series 10 Apple Watch from a backup of my previous Series 6 I immediately noticed a problem with the Digital Crown button. Frequently, it doesn't register presses.

Sometimes it works fine, and other times it requires multiple presses (from 2 to ~10) for it to register the click. Once it registers a click it will usually work ok for a while. After a period of not interacting with the watch, the next time I press the Digital Crown it will require multiple presses to register a click again.

I've tried restarting the watch, setting it up again from backup, and setting it up as a new device (not from backup), but nothing fixes it.

Long pressing the Digital Crown to invoke Siri always works.

Anyone else experiencing this, or have any other ideas what to do?

I'll be contacting Apple Support if there are no magic fixes.

Since getting mine replaced with a brand new device, it hasn't re-occurred, so in my case I think it must've been a hardware issue. I waited through 3 WatchOS updates to see if it would be fixed in software but for me it wasn't. Restarting the watch (or after an update) seemed to fix it for a while, which is why I initially suspected it to be a software issue, but within hours it would return.

If you can reproduce the issue reliably to demonstrate it to an AppleStore technician I would suggest making an appointment at your nearest AppleStore. Apple telephone support were next to useless - just went through the standard troubleshooting things I'd already tried multiple times, and didn't give me the option of mailing it in to Apple for service - I had to visit an AppleStore - as inconvenient, time-wasting and costly for me that was.

Thanks for replying. Yes, your experience is pretty much identical to mine. Exiting apps seems to work every time. I notice it most when swiping down to view notifications and then using the Digital Crown button to return to the watch face, and also when going from the watch face to the app view.

I agree that it's most likely a software issue. If it was hardware the button wouldn't work everywhere - not just in a couple of places. However, I don't know why this issue isn't affecting more people if it is software. A friend bought the same watch as me last week and doesn't have the issue. I also didn't have the issue on my Series 6 also running WatchOS 11.0.

I've now turned off the Siri on push and hold and will see how that affects things.

I got the same issue with the s10 and spoke to several people in Apple cs on the phone. One told me it’s a known software issue. The store manager I talked to in person later on told me it’s not known. They exchanged my watch 3 times, because in the store they thought it was the hardware. They saw it too. Every watch I got had that issue.

I just live with it now, hoping they’ll fix it one day.

I posted a thread few days ago with exact issue. Works every single time in all apps etc but it’s just on the watch face right? Mine did this on brand new AWU2 so swapped out and brand new replacement does exact thing.

it must be a software issue as it’s only on the one screen and more than one device. What I have noticed is having turned off Siri on the push and hold in crown it has helped a fair bit…still can be problematic but doesn’t appear as frequent. Hoping whenever a new update to os11 is pushed out this resolves it.

I'm still having this issue regularly. Sometimes I have to press the Digital Crown 10, 20 times for it to respond. Other times it will work perfectly. I even updated to the public beta of the forthcoming WatchOS to see if that would help. Initially it did work better for 12+ hours but then came back as bad as before.

Anyone else having this issue, and managed to get it fixed, or am I going to have to visit and AppleStore to get it replaced?

Got a new Series 10 this Black Friday, the first week it was fine but now it seems to be having the same problem.

Time to time when I am viewing notifications and press the digital crown it hangs and does not do anything, I need to press a coupe of times for it to go in to the app view.

Does it remain fixed after you got it replaced and is it worth to wait for an update or should I go to warranty?
