Can't save files from safari after macOS Sequoia 15.0 update

After the update, when saving files from Safari to the hard drive, the files are not saved.
When I try to open it, I get an error that the file is damaged or has been moved from
the download location. But if you save it as a download, then everything is fine and
the file is visible. how to solve this problem?

Begin here: Contact - Official Apple Support

That website will appear different in various locations. If you can find no link or option to contact Apple by phone on that page, or if you are unable to find a phone number for your location, the phone number in the US is 800-275-2273. Even that phone number might not work from where you are though.

Until you can find a way to contact Apple I have two suggestions. First, try to correct the permissions on that external disk so that Safari can write to it directly. Assuming that disk appears on your Mac's Desktop, select (single-click) the disk icon then File > Get Info. A window will appear. Click the "lock" icon at the bottom right of that window and authenticate. Check the box "Ignore ownership on this volume" and then close the window.

Example below:

See if that solves the problem. If it does not, or if you want to contact Apple to let them know you think it is a bug anyway, go to this page:

Feedback - macOS - Apple

Under "Feedback type" select Bug Report:

Describe the problem as accurately and as thoroughly as you can, provide all your relevant system details, review it for accuracy to the best of your ability in your language, and then submit the report.

If it is in fact a bug introduced with Sequoia, Apple will address it... eventually. And — if it is a bug — that will take a few weeks, minimum. During that time Apple will not reply to you directly, nor will they publicly announce anything. Be patient, and keep your Mac up to date. That's all any of us can do.

I have an external hard disk connected. I have always saved files to it. But after the update it is not possible. after downloading a file to the hard disk, the file will not open. The system writes: “safari” can not show the file, because it was moved after downloading. And when I try to open it, it says: “safari” cannot resume downloading the file. Perhaps the file is not a valid download file. that's what it gives me.

But if I download to the “download” folder directly to my computer, the file is saved and opened.

Yes. I did it all) I have to ask where to save it in the settings. And before updating to the new iOS, everything worked fine. I chose a folder on my hard drive and everything was well saved. But as soon as I updated to the new iOS, this problem appeared((( and I can't find the answer anywhere, what is this( and how to solve this problem. It is very inconvenient to move files every time from the download folder and sort them.

I'll try) there is 1 option: save to the download folder on your computer and option 2 choose any place when downloading. I always chose the folder I needed on the external hard drive itself. And I didn't touch the "downloads" folder on the computer. I didn't keep anything in it mostly. But now, when saving a file of any file from Safari to an external hard drive, the system gives me an error. The error is with the file. But if I download any file, for example, from the Google browser to an external hard drive, then everything is fine with the file. The problem is directly with saving the file from Safari to an external hard drive.

I also have a similar issue—if I download from Safari to my external HD then the file downloads with a ".download" extension, whereas if I download the file directly to Mac HD (e.g., Downloads folder) then the file downloads normally. It is possible to access the files by first right clicking the ".download" version to show package contents, then copying the file out of the package to the correct folder, but f*** me is that soul destroying (I need to download a lot, all the time)

Yes, yes, yes, yes!!!)))) That's the same problem I have!!!!! One on one. I also found that you can open the menu with the right mouse button and open the file and pull out the folder from there, etc. And it's really very annoying. I also download a lot of files every day. And I waste a lot of time on it. And if you save it to Mac, then ssd is bad and it takes a lot of time to transfer it to the right folder((((

Thanks for that explanation. I understand.

Normally, Safari saves downloaded files to the Mac's ~/Downloads folder, and you can then move them anywhere you want. If you change Safari's default download location to an external storage device, things get complicated. At a minimum, the external hard disk drive must be formatted for macOS and must also have correct read/write permissions. Read Connect and use other storage devices with Mac - Apple Support including its section regarding sharing and permissions, and if you still need help please write back.

Hello. I tried your method. But there is no such function to the disk as you described( it is only to the Mac disk. I tried to go through the settings also did not work( I wrote to support. though there is limited by characters. they tried to write as short and clear as possible) But the problem did not go away( I also came across that you can do a full reset and it seems like everything will be fine. Yesterday I also did a full reset. but the problem remains( I will wait for an update. Thank you very much for your help) If I find a solution to the problem I will also write here).
