Does the AirPort Time Capsule Support PPPoE Connection?

Does the AirPort Apple Time Capsule support PPPoE connection over VLAN ID 40?

I am upgrading my home Internet to Fibre and the ONT needs to be authenticated through PPPoE. I am planning to connect the equipment like so: Fibre -> ONT -> AirPort Apple Time Capsule -> Computer. The ISP is providing Nokia AX1800 BOM routers, but I would like to use my Time Capsule instead, for Time Machine Purposes. They've asked me the question above, to ensure compatibility.

My AirPort Apple Time Capsule is a 5th Generation (mid 2013) 3 TB device.

Can I use my AirPort Time Capsule?

Yes and No.

Yes, if you are planning to use the router supplied by your ISP, in which case the Time Capsule will be set up in Bridge Mode. The Time Capsule will be able to handle backups using Time Machine set up this way.

No, if you are planning to use the Time Capsule as your router, since the Time Capsule will not support VLAN configuration in PPPoE. The Time Capsule was designed to use a very simple DSL type PPPoE connection. It does not know what to do with an ONT.

More information from the ISP:

"If you are using the router provided to you by us, no configuration is required, as it is pre-configured and ready to use.

If you are considering using your own router, you need to ensure that you make the necessary settings for the PPPoE username and password as well as VLAN information.

Please note that not all routers allow VLAN configuration in PPPoE.

To establish the connection, make sure that the PPPoE configuration is done using the VLAN ID 40 option. Additionally, if your router requires you to configure the MTU value, it must be set to 1492."
