De-synching Documents and Destop Folders - icloud Hi All: I turned on icloud synch and checked the Synch Documents and Desktop option. I want to turn it off but I'm nervous. Nervous, even (especially) after the obligatory time spent in apple support/user forums, reddit, etc. (We've all traveled those paths before. I've been a pretty high-level Mac user since 1984.) It appeared after I selected the top-level icloud folders and right-click chose "Keep downloaded." Can anyone assure me that turning off synch will restore the Document and Desktop folders on my hard drive, with no manual intervention required? 🤞 Thanks so much to everyone.

I accidentally deleted most of my files and emptied the bin Recently I accidentally deleted most of my files when I cleaned up my iMac (2021) and deleted all the files in ' recently opened'. I did not know that I would delete all the files out of my maps. Now I miss all my word and excel files from 2021 until now. I emptied the bin straight away. I brought my iMac to two different business which tried to get the filed back with software, but that did not work. Does anybody know if there is a chance that I can get the files back? They were in 'recently opened' and stood all in the cloud first. I did not have an iCloud back up or a Time Machine back up (I thought that my iMac would make an update anyway). The bin is emptied and in I cloud I cannot find any filed under recently deleted. I hope that somebody can help me!

Lost iCloud Drive files I have iCloud Drive folders and the contents of the many of the folders are gone. Apple support engineers said they are gone and can't be recovered. They are very valuable files and I need to get them back one way or another. I use an AirPort Time Capsule as my time machine and do continuous back ups. I also use external hard drives for back ups as well. I pay for the 2TB of iCloud storage and have more storage than I need. What are the chances someone has had this issue and can help. Thanks so much, with great appreciation.

Macs do not backup messages up into iCloud. If you were syncing your files and shutdown, there would be no issue. Syncing resumes again when you turn on the Mac. If you have lost your files, you’ll want to restore from your Time Machine (or similar) backup.

You files might be in /Users/yourname/Library/Mobile Documents/com-appie~CloudDocs
