iMac on Monterey 12.7.6, not communicating with iPhone 15Max Pro on iOS 18.01 OR iPad on iOS 18.01

After talking to Apple Support for an extended period of time they were not able to resolve the problem of my iPad and iPhone NOT connecting to my older iMac. Both hand held devices are running current versions of iOS 18. My iMac is on the Monterey OS version 12.7.6. I believe this is an iOS 18 issue because I connect an older iPod to the iMac it connects. My old iPhone 10 connects to the iMac as well. Obviously neither the iPod or iPhone 10 run iOS 18.

FWIW, I have no problems with my iMac running 12.7.6 connecting with my iPhone 12 Pro, my iPhone 16 Pro, nor my iPad Air M1, all running iOS/iPadOS 18.0.1. So it's not an issue endemic to all such systems, anyway.

You don't say what Apple Support had you do, but just to check, take a look here:

If your computer doesn't recognize your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

You may well have gone through all of that, but just to be sure. If none of that helps, and you've tried a different cable if you're connecting via cable, post back and someone may have additional ideas.

Thank you. As you guessed I have done everything suggested in the link and reloaded to OS on the iMac at the suggestion of Apple. I’m perplexed as the devices I have not running iOS 18 connect without issue. I plan on contacting Apple Support again in the next few days when I have a couple hours to dedicate to the issue. Appreciate your comments.

Incredible fix! I tried SIX different USB C cables and the last one enabled the connection to both my phone and iPad. Odd that Apple Support didn't have this on their checklist of things to attempt BEFORE reloading an entire Operating System. Oh well. At least for today my devices are completely backed up on my desktop.
