IOS 18 and phonak hearing aids bluetooth problem

I am experiencing a problem with my iPhone with IOS 18.0 and my Phonak hearing aids. When Bluetooth pairs my Phonak hearing aids to my iPhone, during telephone calls, the Bluetooth connection starts and stops every few seconds, making hearing my telephone call very difficult.

My audiologist says that Apple and Phonak are both aware of this problem.

Does anyone know if Apple is going to put out a fix for this problem any time soon?

If you find yourself encountering issues with third-party apps or a particular website or product, reaching out to the respective app developer, or manufacturer can be a helpful step in resolving the problem.

How to Contact an App Developer:

  1. In-App Support: Many apps offer an in-app support feature. Look for a "Contact Us" or "Help" section within the app's settings or menu. This may provide you with direct contact information or a form to submit your query.
  2. App Store or Website: If you can't find in-app support or need additional assistance, visit the app's page on the respective app store --> How to contact an app developer - Apple Support
  3. Email Support: Check if the developer has an official support email address listed on their website or app store page. Send them an email explaining the issue you're facing. Be detailed in describing the problem to receive relevant assistance.
  4. Social Media: Some developers maintain active social media profiles. Reach out to them through platforms like Twitter or Facebook, describing your issue or sending them a direct message.
  5. Community Forums: Many apps have dedicated user forums or communities where you can ask questions and seek help from other users or the developers themselves.

How to Contact the Manufacturer:

  1. Go to your iPhone home screen and tap on the “Settings” icon. · In the settings menu, tap on the “Bluetooth®” icon. · Tap on the slider to turn  --> How to pair Phonak hearing aids to iPhone® for phone ...
  2. Product Manual: As mentioned, the product manual can be an excellent resource for finding contact information. Look for the "Support" or "Contact Us" section in the manual.
  3. Product Packaging: Check the product's packaging for any contact details, customer support numbers, or websites provided by the manufacturer.
  4. Manufacturer's Website: Visit the official website of the manufacturer. Most reputable companies have a support section where you can find contact information or submit support requests.
  5. Customer Support: Look for a customer support phone number or email address on the manufacturer's website. Some companies even offer live chat support for immediate assistance.
  6. Social Media: Many manufacturers maintain a presence on social media platforms. Consider sending them a message or mentioning them in a post to seek help.
  7. Retailer: If you purchased the product from a retailer, they might also be able to assist you or direct you to the manufacturer's support channels.

When contacting either the app developer or the manufacturer, be sure to provide specific details about the problem you're facing, including any error messages, screenshots, or steps to reproduce the issue. This information will help them better understand and resolve the difficulty you're experiencing.

Remember to remain polite and patient while seeking support, as it may take some time for the developers or manufacturers to respond to your inquiries.

Thanks for your insight Srvanka. I've contacted Phonak through my audiologist provider and the Phonak app. My audiologist called Phonak for solutions. Phonak blames Apple. I've called Apple and AT&T.

My problem is slightly different than the disconnect but equally frustrating. The phone "ding-a-lings" when I end a call and move the volume up and down. (It started w/ an IOS 17. It seems to have improved somewhat in the past days. It used to ding a ling in the middle of a call and when I dialed a call. ) I am up-to-date on the IOS 18.0.1. It also hisses after I hang up or end a podcast. The audiologist did make an adjustment regarding hissing noises, but it is still there.

I didn't have the Bluetooth's disconnecting issue with iPhone IOS 17. It disconnects from my left hearing aid every minute or so, and it stays connected to my right hearing aid. The problem is I cannot understand words with my right ear, so I really cannot understand what the person on the phone is saying. I can understand words with my left ear. I am told that Phonak right ear hearing aid controls both hearing aids. Time for Oticon's.

My audiologist has contacted Phonak's blue tooth's division about the hearing aid breaking up during phone calls - particularly the left hearing aid. They said Apple is aware of the issue and should be updating the IOS. It has been over a month now and nothing has changed. I have talked several times with Apple senior engineers who keep telling me they are working on the problem but nothing has happened yet. I have asked for clearance to give my phone back. NO response. Phonak is not the only hearing aid company having this issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if the issue is stemming from Apple developing hearing aids with their ear buds and that this is causing the issue with non Apple hearing aids.

My husband is having the same issues with his new hearing aids. He got a new iPhone 16ProMax shortly after he got the hearing aids (end of September) and is so frustrated. The problem existed on his old phone as well, which had iOS 17. The only issues he is having are with phone calls. The other Bluetooth features with the cars, etc are fine. When is Apple going to help us?
