What to do in this situation?

I have a MacBook Pro from 2018, 15 inch. For the last year, since i bought it, i have used with extreme care at home and there was not need to move it frequently outside of my home. But from the start of this month, I have to go to a library for the exams preparations and there is super crowded there and the tables are open like the meetings ones. So many people just sat close to each other i.e. 8 to 10 people on a single large table. The problem which is haunting me is as there is no partition on the table, when someone opposite or left/right moves his laptop/book/accessories, they often touches/bump slightly with the open lid of my MBP 2018. For example, if the person sitting opposite to me pushes his laptop, it slightly collides with the back of my MacBook's open lid. This is quite frustrating and depressing for me as i have watched many videos and review of people saying that MacBook hinges are super delicate and could be damaged easily.

Can someone explain whether this would hurt my laptop's lid/hinges/screen in any way?

What i should do in this situation?

For further clarification, i have a hard shell case on my laptop too.

I agree with @BobtheFisherman posted above, I would remove the hard shell. These are known to occasionally cause damage to the screen or case of the laptop. Personally, I prefer a protective sleeve for my laptop when I'm not using it or transporting it.

And as @neuroanatomist have posted above, MacBooks are in fact built plenty tough. Three generations of my family, including teens and grands, have travelled with and used a dozen or so MacBook computers over decades and never had a hinge break or fail.
