How can I stream Netflix from my Mac to my TV without getting an error message?

I have a Mac air and a HDMI to USB-C cable I use to connect to my TV to watch Netflix or movies. It's worked fine for a couple of days and I now I get an error message every time - problem with my display/ asking that I check my computer is not beeng mirrored using Air Play. I have no idea what that means :(

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 14.6

It means that Netflix has an objection to what they consider is a violation of their terms of use. Namely, that you do not stream its content to other devices. Clearly that is not what you're doing, but Netflix has had a tortured relationship with Macs for as long as I can remember. I made numerous complaints to them, but they just don't seem to care. I eventually cancelled Netflix for that reason and others.

For what it's worth AirPlay is Apple's content streaming service: Stream video and audio with AirPlay - Apple Support. It works with any Mac, the Apple TV or AirPlay-enabled "smart TV". Again, the fact you don't even know what it is means you are not using it, and Netflix is in error.

Netflix needs to get their act together. If you are willing to buy one, I happen to know Netflix's AppleTV app works well: Apple TV 4K - Apple
