With all of the things that Apple does, why can’t they provide the date with the time on iPhones like they do on their other devices? It’s very annoying to have to either go back to the home screen or the calendar.

If you wish to provide feedback to Apple, you can do so here:
You can of course swipe down from the top of the screen and get the date as well as the time. Not as convenient as if the date was just displayed - there's not room for both the time and date but the option to choose would be nice - but more convenient than having to open the calendar.
