external password

I have a new iPhone 16. I have a hotmail email account with an underscore "_" in the password. My iPhone says the password is incorrect. It started this when I first got the phone more than a week ago. It let me get by until now. Now, it won't let me use email on my iPhone.

iPhone 12 keeps asking for email password My iPhone 12 keeps asking for email password for my hotmail. I set up my hotmail account on the phone through the mail app and not had any issues. In the last few days, it has started asking me to re-enter the password every few hours-now up to 6-8 times a day. I've tried deleting and re-installing the account, but to no effect. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's becoming a real nuisance

Your phone doesn't care what the password is. All it does it pass it to the mail server, which is rejecting it.

You most likely need to create an app specific password for your phone. See Hotmail's help pages.
