RCS messaging only works on WiFi

I recently updated my phone to iOS 18 and the RCS messaging feature was working nicely with others that don’t have an iPhone. I noticed whenever I leave my house or disconnect from WiFi, it disconnects me from RCS messaging and uses SMS. I checked with my carrier and it allows for RCS messages.

I stated in my post. My carrier supports RCS. I have Xfinity mobile.

Check to see if you have a Carrier Update available. Your carrier can support RCS, but it will not be available to you until they issue the Carrier Update on your phone to use the feature on their network. You can also use this link to see the version number of the Carrier software you have to confirm with Xfinity that it is the latest version.

You can also try to Reset Network Settings on your phone. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will also reset your WiFi passwords, so you would need to enter them again the first time you login to your WiFi network.

The carrier has to specifically support RCS for iPhone. They will do this through a Carrier Update on your phone. Many carriers have not adopted RCS on iPhone. Your carrier may have RCS, but they have not implemented the steps needed to issue the Carrier Update on your phone.
