Mac OS Sequoia drains the battery by 2% every 15 min. No issues on Ventura.

MacBookPro 13" Intel 2018. Ventura had no battery issues on my MacBookPro. After upgrading to Sonoma I had experienced the issue with fast battery drain. I have not found any solutions and downgraded to Ventura. Now I upgraded to Sequoia and experiencing the same issue with fast battery drain. If I put computer to sleep with 100% battery capacity and wake up the computer next morning I see only 90% battery capacity. I want to note PowerNap is disabled. SMC and PRAM were reset of course. I having sorted out and found the log is full of strange outputs. There are a lot of power records every 300 ms.

While I has been writing this post the battery was drain by 10%...

I did clean installation on another partition but it did not help.

I did fully clean install both of those OS (Ventura and Sequoia) Ventura lives without power adapter about 5 days (I did my ordinary tasks). Sequoia - 2 hours. Hardware is the same. No third party software installed.

Respectfully, one may want to revise that statement

Building on an earlier posting by @ Luis Sequeira1 re CleanMyMac

To put the CleanMyMac in context and the damages it may have or has already done.

This application can or will Muck Up your User Account ( Home Folder ) of this machine.

It does not touch the Operating System itself unless you consider your User.

Account ( Home Folder ) as part of the Operating System

Then in that specific context - it has Mucked Up the Operating  System

In which case, the Operating System is hosed

Ventura is a smaller operating system with substantially fewer system processes running than Sequoia. Clean installations won't matter if the operating system is normally doing more with your CPU/GPU, RAM, and Storage access. Apple simply is not making smaller operating systems that do less… and on the same portable hardware that equates to more battery drain per unit of time.

The applications of third-party vendors that incorporate new Sequoia features into their applications won't improve your battery drain either. This evolution has been going on for years…

i have the same problem with a two month old MacBook Air 15" M2 with only 10 battery cycles ! its a OS problem! mine drops 1% every 15 minutes doing nothing ! I only have 4 apps installed (any desk, kicad 8, vsCode and Xcode) and almost empty ssd! prior to update to sequoia my battery last a week! dropping only 1% every hour or 1 and half !

If were were to take your figures as 1.5 % drop / hour into 100% Battery charge.

That would be 66.66 hours runtime while in use

66.66 hours divided by 24 hours = 2.7775 Days

All the above is predication on the computer as being On and in Use

Follow the advise from @Luis Sequeira1 and post the report

On the off chance, a 2018 MBP Intel in 2024 = 6 years of age

How many Full Battery Cycles that this machine experienced over its' 6 years lifespan ?

Batteries are considered Consumable Products.

Over time it will degrade to a point where it needs to be replaced.

Apple Batteries are rated for 1000 Full Battery Cycles and / or 80% Capacity before needing Evaluation or replacement.

Don't fall for stuff like "PowerMyMac"! This is predicated on the false notion that your mac needs "cleaning" or "optimizing" by a third party application. I had not heard of this particular application, but since it places itself as a "competitor" to CleanMyMac - and this one we know is terrible (having earned the moniker brickmymac, as PRP_53 mentioned), I would not install it, let alone use it.

You mentioned 2% in 15 minutes - if we extrapolate that to 100% it would give more than 12 hours! Now, that for a 6 years old mac is not bad at all!

My 2019 16" Mac, with a much larger battery (albeit also a larger screen, of course) will hardly last 4 hours, let alone 12.

At this point, I don't see any obvious big waste of energy. Maybe your mac lasted a bit longer in Ventura (but not 5 days, ever - unless you put it to sleep or shut down for most of the time), but it seems to be working quite normally.

Thanks Luis! You are right and your calculations are correct but (may be I did wrong observations and assumptions to the percentage of battery drain) today my Mac was fully drained less than by 3 hours. I will give a chance to Sequoia and will do my ordinary work for a couple days and then will see what a result.

P.S. You are right about your suspicions how I do work with Ventura. 🤝
