iPad Air Gen. 4 bootloop after installing iOS 18.01

Hello,

iPad Air Gen. 4

iOS 18.01

I upgraded my iPad to iOS 18.01 and since then it seems to be in some kind of boot loop.

After I upgraded it, it was just on my table, it did not fall down or was even moved.

With the upgrade it seemed to work just fine but after one day (it was charged to 100%) 100% of the battery was drained. When I plugged it in to charge it just kept restarting and restarting.

So I tried to reinstall the software and put it in recovery mode and on my MacBook choose to completley restore the iPad, but it's the same issue.

I can get it to start to install the new OS but after about 15 seconds it just shuts off again and restarts and tries it again.

When it is connected for the 15 seconds I can see that the battery has 1%.

I left it booting over night just incase it someone was completely drained and had an issue with the battery but it did not change a thing.

I assume that either iOS 18 does not recognize the battery level correctly and therefore shuts down the iPad or somehow my battery disconnected or died.

Has someone an idea what I can do, except for replacing the battery or opening it and checking the connectors?

First, it would be inadvisable to attempt to open or repair the iPad yourself. If you do, you will forfeit all future support from Apple; Apple will not attempt to troubleshoot or resolve damage or failure caused through attempted repair by anyone other than an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP).

As described, your iPad battery may have a fault, or may be reaching the end of its usable life. If the battery has failed or is failing, the iPad may unexpectedly turn-off - or may not successfully boot to a running state even when connected to its Power Adapter.

Connect your iPad to its Power Adapter - and allow the iPad to charge, undisturbed, for 24 hours. Then, while still connected to its Power Adapter, try a forced restart.

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

Are you able to use the iPad while remaining connected to your Power Adapter? If yes, while monitoring the indicated battery state, disconnect the Power Adapter; if the indicated battery state suddenly falls, or the iPad shuts-off, this test demonstrates the iPad battery having reached the end of its usable life:
