Cannot tether MacBook to iphone

MacBook Pro connects fine to other wifi including android hotspots. iPhone can be used as hotspot for my other MacBook Air. But my MacBook Pro cannot get internet through my iPhone. I can open terminal and ping google.com. I have tried diagnostics and nothing came up. Tried removing old known networks. Tried renaming iPhone and changing password. Tried updating both to latest.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 15.0

I have found a workaround. When I connect, I have to go into TCP/IP settings and change the IPV6 setting 'Configure IPV6'. Just toggling it to manually, then disconnecting and reconnecting then it works. Nx time I connect, I change back to automatically and then that triggers it to work. There seems to be something with IPV6 and the carrier that is causing it to initially not work. So I can get it working but its a pain to do this every time.

So my workaround seems to work as annoying as it is. Connect to Wifi. GO into Wifi TCP/IP settings and change 'Configure IPV6' to anything other than what it currently is and it starts working. If I do not do this, browsers don't work. Doesn't matter what the original setting was or what you change it to as long as you change it. All I can say is WTF.

The odd part is that it doesn't matter what it is currently set at, when I connect to the hot spot it doesn't work. Then I change that setting to anything it wasn't on when it connected and it magically starts working. Next time I will try this suggestion as I haven't tried initially using this however changed to this worked but as I said, changed to anything works. lol, this defies logic.

Yes a pain but its better than me doing what I was doing which was spending an hour a day on my train commute trying to figure it out and getting no work done. Been doing that for weeks!

I have M1 MBP with iPhone 15 Pro. My M2 MBA works fine with the iPhone 15 Pro. Anyway, glad this helped someone else, wish that the wifi diagnostics actually did something. The logs were not very helpful and not sure how anyone is suppose to figure this out.
