Unable to pair an Apple Watch. Software update required.

I tried to pair my new watch, but it stated software update required. I deleted a lot of apps, text, and pictures. I even purchased iCloud for .99 cents but I'm not sure how it helps. Any suggestions?

iPhone 13, iOS 17

iCloud will not help with software updates.

If your iPhone is the one requiring the update, what happens when you go to Settings ➜ General ➜ Software Update exactly?

If the watch you bought is running watchOS 11, then your iPhone needs to be running iOS 18.
