Iphone 16 pro max camera resolution

The main camera files are 24 megapixels

the x2 and x5 cameras save as 12 megapixels.

and I have found noway to save any as 48 megapixels.

Anyone know why ? Shouldn't 2 cameras be at least 24 if not 48?

The cameras for the 0.5x and 1.0x stops have 48 MP resolution. Depending on the phone's setup, pictures that you take at those stops might, or might not, use all of that. (See the Support article about advanced camera settings.)

The cameras for the 2.0x and 5.0x stops have 12 MP resolution. The 2.0x camera isn't really a separate camera – to get a 2.0x image, the phone takes a picture with the 48 MP main camera and crops off all of the stuff that shouldn't be in the picture. Cropping removes 3/4 of the 48 MP, leaving 12 MP. The 5.0x camera is separate – but its sensor only has 12 MP.
