I have mine set to "On," and find it helpful. As stated in Make a call with Wi-Fi Calling - Apple Support, "With Wi-Fi Calling, you can make or receive a phone call if you have a Wi-Fi connection in an area with little or no cellular coverage. Learn how to make a voice call using Wi-Fi Calling."
Also, according the article, "make sure that your carrier offers Wi-Fi Calling and that your devices have the latest software."
No real disadvantage. WiFi calling will use your WiFi network to make and receive calls and send and receive messages if the cellular signal is poor or non-existent. I have poor cellular coverage in my basement, so my phone uses WiFi calling there.
thank you
oops- meant to also ask-disadvantages?

Not that I can think of.
You are welcome, and I agree with the answer provided by IdrisSeabright in regard to disadvantages.
I will add another advantage; if you travel internationally and your hotel or a cafe has Wi-Fi you can make phone calls to back home for free, without having to pay international roaming rates.
