I have a file that iMovie does not support- which codec or format does it support?

Mac mini, macOS 14.6

Here's a screen shot copy from Wikipedia showing the iMovie supported formats after Mac OS Mojave:

Edit: The Mp4 supported format must be Mp4/AAC.

I get the error "This file contains some media which isn’t compatible with QuickTime Player." My understanding is that this file has an old CODEC setting that is no longer readable. iMovie Library XXX is already in use by XXXX I have a 2015 iMac and iMovie support for this version stopped sometime back. I have a 2 tera byte file with home movies that I wish to access. However, the system keeps returning the message “iMovie Library XXX” is already in use by XXX. How do I overcome this issue?

MPEG 2 TS files won't import to FCP for editing I've the INNOVV camera that records in MPEG 2 Travel Stream. FCP will not recognize the format. I've located VLC 3.0.18 for macOS that will convert but the process is long and I've many files. Is there an extension or upgrade with FCP that allows it import for editing? Thanks in advance.

Good question, Apple doesn't actually publish that info, at least not anywhere I've been able to find. I'd guess .mov and MP4 files should be fine in either 1080 HD or 4K. What codec, frame size, and frame rate is the video you're trying to import?

To convert to something iMovie should support, right-click that file in the Finder, and choose "Encode Selected Video File", then choose H.264 for the appropriate frame size.
