How to stop iPhones from syncing?
Three of our four iPhones are syncing. So any messages I write are visible on the other iPhones. And I would like to remove my self from that syncing, so that my messages to my friends are private.

This is what happens when multiple devices share the same Apple ID. Apple has, for more than decade advised against doing that --> Make sure each family member has a unique Apple Account – Apple Support (UK)

It sounds like you are sharing the Apple ID. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive, to see the Apple ID that is used to send & receive messages. The Apple ID used for each device is visible by going to Settings > [name on top].
