Links in facebook messenger keep opening in web browser (Chrome or Safari)

Started about 3-4 weeks ago, links to facebook from my messenger app keep opening in web browser instead of the Facebook app. It will first open the Facebook app for a quick second then immediately open the link in web browser.

The option "Open in external browser" under Media => Links is already turn off for both Messenger and Facebook and I did not change any settings at all.

Have anyone else getting the same issue and what could be the fix?

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18

I’ve also been having the same problem and it’s very annoying! I tried flipping on and off the setting, and uninstalling and reinstalling both Facebook and messenger. Nothing helped. Actually the only thing that works is to not have messenger installed. You can still access your Facebook messages in the Facebook app and then when you click links, they Open in the Facebook app. It’s when you’re coming from the Messenger app that it doesn’t divert to Facebook properly.

The only annoying part then if you don’t use the Messenger app is you have to open Facebook to see if you have any message notifications, rather than just seeing them on the app icon or as a pop-up or banner or whatever.

it’s not a fix, but it’s a workaround with it’s own an annoyance so I guess pick your poison until somebody fixes this
