I am not receiving push notifications on my iPhone after iOS 18 update

After the iOS 18 update I no longer receive push notifications on my Lock Screen. I have to open the apps to see that I receive a message hours ago and never received the notification. iPhone 13 Pro

The only thing that worked for me was resetting all settings. Settings app > “General” > “Transfer or reset iphone” > “Reset” > choose “Reset all settings” from the popup menu.

It’s annoying that it requires a blanket fix like that, but it’s way less frustrating than the notification problems. The most intense implications of resetting your settings, in my experience, was that every app acts somewhat like a newly installed app when you open it again after resetting – it’ll keep your “in app” settings (so any settings you’ve managed from the app itself isn’t reset) and data (it doesn’t wipe your app clean), but any settings in the literal iPhone Settings app will be set back to default values. This means you have to allow camera and mic access, access to photo library, access to your location data, etc. I found it a nice way to kind of overhaul my privacy settings everywhere, silver lining.

please note that it will also delete your saved Wifi passwords, unless you have them saved in the passwords app like your network is a website (the passwords app is safe from the reset).

Hi,

Got the problem after installing 18.1.1 and I've tried all the different options mentioned here.

WORKS for me (iPhone 12): Only one thing works and it's reinstalling the app.

I guess when a new app asks for permission to send notifications, that fixes the problem (mends the connection between the app and the iOS notification system somehow...)

Problem is that you only get that on first install, not after... I don't want to reinstall 100+ apps and login to most of them...

The issue appears to have been introduced in iOS 18 and remains unresolved, with later updates like 18.1 and 18.1.1 expanding the problem to more devices (including mine, which wasn’t affected before 18.1.1). This suggests Apple hasn’t addressed the root cause but instead inadvertently extended the bug. I sincerely hope they resolve this soon, as notifications are one of the iPhone’s most essential features.

Just go in your control center and put the phone on focus mode. I don’t know why it’s called focus mode but it works! Be sure that all the modes are grey (there isn’t any mode selected). Get out of the control center, and you will see the red dots popping up on your apps. Go back to control center, now select “do not disturb” exit the control center again and you will see all the red dots and notifications disappear again.

Before the 18.1.1 update, the notification were mute (silenced) in “do not disturb mode” but you were still getting the new red dot, now it’s not the case anymore!

In response to the comments about simply uninstalling and re-installing apps:

This does not work for Apple installed apps, such as Messages, because those cannot be deleted.

Yes, Apple can fix this as it was created when Apple sent out iOS updates.

This failure has nothing to do with third party apps; it is about Apple Mail, Messages, etc..

I've bought 2 iPhones 16 for me and my wife. We updated it to iOS 18.4 and we both have problem with push notifications. To reproduce this problem: just lock your phone, idle it for 10-20 minutes and try to write to your WhatsApp or Telegram from other phone. You will see that message from another WhatsApp don't arrive to your phone (1 checkmark in WhatsApp, for example). Just tried everything and DFU too on both devices - the problem still exist. Apple, please fix this, there're a lot of people here with this IMPORTANT issue. Hope, that this will be fixed in iOS 18.4.1 or 18.5 later.

Same, since 18.1.1 push notifications to the phone do the following, all the way up to 18.4.1: phone chimes, screen stays off, blank notification bars. Or if the phone is connected to a power source, or wireless pad and the battery is 80% or lower all notifications are received again to the notification bar, even if the notification is from earlier or the previous day. So frustrating the phone is comply unreliable to get notified on anything. Reset all settings on phone, did NOT fix the issue. 2hr Visit to the Apple Genius Bar could not fix or diagnose the issue. A total waste of time.
