AirTag uses Bluetooth technology, which has an upper limit of about 25-30 feet assuming no obstructions or interference.

Even with no obstructions in the signal path, the best I can do is about 14-15 feet here at the house.

If you have not replaced the battery in some time, that might help.

I'm assuming that you are using an iPhone to try locating your AirTag ... correct? If so, what model is your phone and what version of iOS is it running?

AirTags basically have unlimited range, but it will depend on where it is with respect to your iPhone. Within the tag's Bluetooth range (~30-40' unrestricted) your phone should be able to locate it directly. With a newer iPhone model, you can use "precision finding" to make finding it even easier.

Outside of that range, the tag works with the Apple Find My network, which consists of millions of iPhones. However, just one of those phones will need to be within Bluetooth range of the tag to pick up its Bluetooth signal. That phone, in turn, will relay the tag's ID, along with the phone's GPS location to the Apple servers over the Internet. This is where your phone would get the tag's updated "location" via the Find My app,

So, you can see, that a number of things have to happen to make this work.
