How to extend AirPods battery life?

I’ve had mine for 5 yrs (new) and just started to use them. Sadly, they only work for about 1.5 hrs of listening time. My son says to just get new because the cost to replace battery is a wash. Sorry but I don’t know version/generation.

Although they all made things louder, the sound quality was pathetic. Even with very expensive ones. I decided to try this AirPod, and WOW - it is GREAT. THe sound quality when using it as a HA is wonderful. BUT - a big issue is that the battery does not even last 6 hours. THat makes it kind of useless as a HA if I want to hear well all day. Is there a way to extend battery life? I can't see a way to turn them off so there is no drain at times when I don't need them. I wonder why the HA manufacturers can't capture the quality Apple has. Can AirPods Pro 2 batteries still work well after being idle? The new, unpacked airpods pro 2 headphones have been lying idle for almost two years. How seriously can this affect battery life? Could the batteries have lost their maximum capacity? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Your son is probably right. These batteries degrade over time. And five years is a long time for a battery.
