Why is siri SCREAMING at me?

My phone is on silent, ringtone/alerts volume is really low, my media volume (songs, videos, etc) is low, but, sometimes (not always), when I ask Siri something, she will SCREAM at me at the top of her lungs! That's pretty terrifying when I ask what time it is in the middle of the night, or what my glucose is when my CGM starts beeping.

Is there another volume I need to adjust so she stops yelling at me?

I've got an iPhone 15 pro running iOS 17.7.

To the best of my knowledge, this never happens on my old iPad air 2 (I turned "hey siri" off when I got the new phone, so it's been a while since I've used siri on it, but in all the years I had it before getting the 15 pro, I don't recall it ever yelling at me).

Adjust the volume with the side buttons while Siri’s colored “dot” is displayed.

Update your iPhone:

Your iPhone model (15 Pro) is compatible with iOS18. So, consider updating to it, for bug fixes and new features. That may do the fix, given this is a bug or misconfiguration.

1. Back Up First:

IMPORTANT: Prior to updating, be certain you backup your iPhone. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update

Thanks for the suggestion.

Didn't help :-/

tried turning it ALL the way up while the "siri ball" was on-screen, and she wasn't yelling (or getting any louder, for that matter), then tried turning all the way down, and....then she got pretty loud 🤷‍♂️ pretty sure that was a random coincidence.

Also tried saying "hey siri - speak quieter" like the internet suggests, but that just turns down the phone volume, which makes me think siri should be speaking at the same volume as songs/videos, but for some reason isn't, and is trying to give me a heart attack :(
