Siri not hearing instructions on iPhone 17 with iOS 26.2

On iPhone 17, iOS 26.2.1, Siri was working fine with side button activation, but since about a week ago Siri doesn’t hear instructions & pressing the microphone icon in search fields and speaking will not record my words.

I tested:

Voice Memos = microphone input and audio playback loud & clear

Front camera audio = microphone input and audio playback loud & clear

Rear camera audio = microphone input and audio playback loud & clear

Phone calls = other party reports they can hear me loud & clear

Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Talk & Type to Siri > Press Side Button for Siri > ON

Tried restarting the phone to no avail.

Any advice on how to get Siri working again?

After trying everything to solve the ‘deaf Siri’ issue I took the phone into a local Apple store. They did some audio tests. Apparently newer iPhones have at least four microphones, but different apps use different microphones. The Apple tech determined that this one-month-old iPhone 17 had a dead microphone – the microphone that is used by Siri. They replaced the phone with a new one, I ported over all my old data and settings, and now Siri works again.

Settings > Siri > Siri Responses > [Choose the way you want] --> Pic 1
Settings > General > Accessibility > Siri > Type to Siri [Disable] --> Pic 2
