Very slow MacBook air.

I got a broken intel MacBook air 2020 running from a friend, when I power it up(from an apple 96W usbc power adapter) , the system is VERY slow and the battery is dead, I also couldn't update it or go into recovery mode.

When looking at resource monitor, it shows nothing unusual, the battery looks alright physically and isn't bulging.

When I asked this question on reddit, people told me that if I replace my battery, the problems will be solved,

can anybody confirm if this is true?

Thanks!

PS. sorry for my bad English.

If the battery is dead, the very least that you would need to do is to replace the battery. However, I don't think that anybody here can guarantee that if you replace the battery, all of your problems will be solved.

You could take the MacBook Air to Apple or to an Authorized Apple Service Provider – and ask them to give you an estimate of what work needs to be done. They might also say "we don't know", but with hands-on access to your computer, and their expertise in repairing Macs, they would have a much better chance of figuring out the score.
