What does "security settings verification required" mean?

This appeared on both iPhone and IMac. Is this legitimate.

Ditec,

Do you have advanced data protection turned on? I used to get these alerts when I made a change to my Apple ID, password, certain settings, files, etc.

Since ADP is iCloud specific protection, I tried logging out of my iCloud account and logging back in on all my devices (logged out everywhere, then logged in on my phone, MacBook, and iPad in that order). This fixed it for me.

This was a while ago, and maybe something’s changed with the newer software updates, but I eventually turned off ADP and it hasn’t been a problem since.
